On June 4th, 2024, the Weccare Foundation, in collaboration with the US-based NGO SmileTrain, organized an outreach program at the Acha Health Clinic in Yaounde. This initiative falls under Weccare’s Comprehensive Cleft Care Project (CCCP) and aims to raise awareness about cleft lip and palate among midwives and pregnant women

A Fruitful Partnership for a Brighter Future

Cleft lip and palate is a common facial malformation that can affect the lip and/or the roof of the mouth. With proper surgery and follow-up care, children born with cleft lip and palate can lead healthy and productive lives.

The Weccare Foundation, a renowned Cameroonian organization dedicated to healthcare, has partnered with SmileTrain, the world’s leading cleft charity, to launch the CCCP project. This fruitful collaboration provides free reconstructive surgery and comprehensive care for children born with cleft lip and palate in Cameroon.

Yesterday’s outreach program at the Acha Clinic specifically targeted midwives and pregnant women. By educating these key groups about cleft lip and palate, its causes, and treatment options, the CCCP project hopes to encourage early detection and intervention. A prompt prenatal or postnatal diagnosis allows for timely referral to specialized care, ultimately improving the prognosis and quality of life for children born with cleft lip and palate.
