Beyond the Stigma: A Cleft’s Journey

Born into a Challenging World

In the small Cameroonian village of Bafia, a young boy named Amang Stefan came into the world on June 8, 2008. He faced a unique challenge from birth: a cleft lip. This physical difference would have a profound impact on his life

Early Education and Struggles

Despite his condition, Amang Stefan was eager to learn. At the tender age of four, he started attending school. He progressed through the primary grades, attending classes at the SIL school up to the CM2 level. However, his school years were marked by a constant struggle. The stigma and teasing associated with his cleft made it difficult for him to fit in and thrive in the classroom environment.

Dropping Out and Finding Solace

The relentless bullying and isolation eventually became too much for Amang Stefan to bear. Sadly, he was forced to drop out of school. Seeking refuge, he returned to his grandmother’s home in the countryside. There, he found solace in the familiar surroundings and the comforting company of his grandmother. For the past eight years, he has been helping her with farm work.

Dreams of a New Beginning

Despite the challenges he has faced, Amang Stefan has not lost hope. He dreams of a brighter future and aspires to acquire new skills. His heart is set on pursuing a career in carpentry or automotive mechanics. He believes that with the right training and support, he can overcome the obstacles and achieve his goals.

A Timid Soul

Amang Stefan is a gentle and timid soul. He often feels self-conscious and fears the judgment of others. The scars left by his cleft have deeply affected his self-esteem. However, he remains determined to break free from the limitations imposed by his condition.
