Mrs. Nkeiruka Obi: A Leader in Smile Train Africa
A significant step toward strengthening access to cleft care in Cameroon took place on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, when Mrs. Nkeiruka Obi, Vice President and Regional Director for Africa at Smile Train, paid a visit to WeCCARE Foundation, located within the premises of Hadassah Medical Centre.
The visit brought together two organizations united by a shared commitment to improving the lives of individuals and families affected by cleft conditions.
Strengthening a Shared Commitment to Cleft Care
The visit served as an opportunity to reinforce the collaboration between Smile Train and WeCCARE Foundation, building on their shared efforts to ensure that more children and families can access quality cleft care.
WeCCARE Foundation, through its healthcare arm, Hadassah Medical Centre, has been involved in initiatives aimed at supporting families affected by cleft lip and palate. The Foundation has previously highlighted its synergy with Smile Train in providing care and restoring smiles to children and families.
Smile Train’s work in Africa focuses on expanding access to comprehensive cleft care while strengthening the capacity of local healthcare professionals and institutions. Its African programs include surgical care as well as services such as nutrition, speech therapy, orthodontics, dental and ENT care.
Giving Children Back Their Smiles
Cleft lip and cleft palate can affect a child’s ability to eat, speak, breathe and develop confidently. Access to appropriate treatment can therefore have an impact that goes beyond surgery, extending to nutrition, speech, dental health, psychosocial wellbeing and social inclusion.
Through collaboration between organizations such as Smile Train and WeCCARE Foundation, the objective is to help ensure that families do not have to face these challenges alone.
Looking Ahead
The September 15 visit marks another important moment in the relationship between Smile Train and WeCCARE Foundation. As the partnership continues to develop, the organizations look toward reaching more families, strengthening healthcare collaboration and contributing to improved access to cleft care in Cameroon.
